Excerpts from the Aspirant’s Treatise - Revised Edition
The Order of the Liberation
No pursuit will more certainly ensure the preservation of the humanoid genus than preserving our knowledge. Indeed, I find no sound nor sign of liberty rings ought but hollow if we lack both the right and the ability to educate.

The Order of the Liberation is one of the more loosely organized orders, and exists as a direct response to the events surrounding the death of Lady Quay and the subsequent violence that broke out within the Order of the Elucidation. In the Era of the Adversary, year 89, the Order of the Liberation was formed by twenty-two Knights formerly of the Elucidation.
After escaping the Elucidation's violent civil war, and believing at the time that their former order was soon to collapse under the weight of its own suspicions, paranoias, and zealotry, the founders of the Order of the Liberation came together with one purpose - to ensure that the basic teachings and techniques developed by the Congregation of Motive Knights were preserved. To that end they organized their Order quite loosely to prevent wide-spread disruption, and for some time did not even refer to it as an Order at all, but rather simply as "the Correspondence" in reference to their ongoing exchange of coded letters.
At its core, the mission of the Liberation is to preserve as much knowledge as possible, including documenting and preserving records of other Orders. However, following conflicts with the Elucidation, the Liberation brokered a peace under which the Liberation vowed to destroy all copies of the secret techniques and information of other Orders, and vowed never again to collect or catalog such things. Whether or not the Liberation has remained true to those vows, only the Liberation itself can say - though the very idea that the entire modern Order of the Liberation abides by any singular treaty or leadership is laughable. More than likely the Liberation has, in one or two of its most well-protected vaults, quite the collection of testimonials, instructions, and analyses of its fellow Orders.
Nevertheless, once the peace was in place, the Order of the Liberation was free of scrutiny for quite some time as it made a concerted effort in its early decades to make as little nuisance of itself as possible. Accordingly, the Liberation has now spent over two hundred years successfully collecting, copying, and distributing important knowledge throughout a growing network of hidden libraries and storehouses. This included some of the most advanced studies on souls, on demonology, and even on the nature of humanoids and other natural creatures.
By secretly distributing copies of this knowledge to loosely-affiliated chapters and cells, the Order of the Liberation has become an indelible and invaluable part of the landscape of resistance. The Liberation may not be known for striking vital blows or fielding powerful warriors, but its members have supported some of the most effective actions against the Adversary in the last fifty years through their so-called "Order of Librarians" (a term used endearingly as often as it is pejoratively).
Aspirants
Joining the Order of the Liberation requires years of study, due mostly to the fact that each aspirant must memorize and recite in full at least one of the many tomes of knowledge that the Order so vigorously protects before they may become a Knight of the Order. Only a single member of the Liberation is required to make a new member, who may be inducted once they have made their recitation and have sworn the Oath of the Learned.
Oath of the Learned
I vow with my every breath to protect knowledge and its vehicles, including the minds of the innocent, the books of good students, and the veracity of pivotal information. I further vow never to destroy a copy of information I cannot reproduce unless I know first-hand that another copy exists in the control of free and uncorrupted people.
Academies of the Liberation
While other Orders pass down their techniques and traditions happenstantially, the Order of the Liberation organizes intentionally into Academies - specific groups of Knights working to study and compile knowledge on specific topics. Over time certain of these Academies have emerged with monumental discoveries - sets of knowledge and techniques that when put to use by a sharp mind have proved pivotal in the battle against the Adversary.
Academy of the Monstrous
The Academy of the Monstrous is the oldest of the Academies among Knights of the Liberation, focusing originally on preserving and accumulating the secrets of demons - most particularly how to detect and destroy them. Now it has expanded to study all manner of potential foes, learning their strengths and cataloguing their weaknesses.
Academy of the Scribe
The Academy of the Scribe came about as the results of experiments with alchemy and language. These experiments were originally intended to create a method to conveying knowledge through drinkable liquids, it instead produced a technique that allows the practitioner to inscribe supernatural power into inked words and diagrams, allowing a skilled Knight to stockpile a small arsenal of supernatural potency ready for use at a moment's notice.
Academy of the Stars
The Academy of Stars focuses on the study of natural phenomena, especially the movement and shapes of the sun, moon, and stars. Particularly, they interpret and exploit these omens of the natural world to prevent the spread of corrupting forces and predict and influence future events.
